Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sastha Temple, dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, is the most famous and prominent among all the Sastha temples in Kerala. The temple is situated on a hilltop (about 3000 feet above sea level) named Sabarimala in Pathanamthitta district, which is unique in many respects. The uniqueness gathers its voice, as the temple is open to all, irrespective of caste, creed or religion. There is a place near the temple; east to Sannidhanam, dedicated to the Vavar (a Sufi and friend of Lord Ayyappa) which is called 'Vavarunada', an epitome of religious harmony.

Another interesting fact is that it is not open throughout the year. It is open for worship only during the days of Mandalapooja, Makaravilakku and Chitra Vishu. It is said that the pilgrims have to follow fasting for 41 days to cleanse their minds before going to Sabarimala. The journey to the temple is to be taken through difficult paths in the forest as the vehicles can go only up to Pampa.

Day 01

Arrival at Cochin Airport/Railway Station. Check in at hotel for freshup.

After freshup, proceed to Sabarimala, on the way visit to Chottanikara Temple, Vaikom Temple, Ettumanoor Temple and Erumeli Temple.


Evening drop at Pamba. (Vehicles cannot proceed further beyond Pampa which is located in the Pampa river valley; the final five kilometers are best covered by trekking, but for the aged and handicapped, porters and chairs are available. You can trek 5 kms to reach the temple to have Darshan. Darshan- depends upon rush over there.)

Day 02

Early morning after the Darshan you can reach Pamba around 9.30 am

 

After breakfast, proceed to Guruvayoor. On the way visit - kodugallur Bagavathi Temple and Triprayar temple at Thrissur District. On arrival at Guruvayoor, Check into the hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 03


Early morning Nirmalya Darshan at Guruvayoor Temple. Mala Removal can be done at Guruvayoor Temple. Visit Elephant Sanctuary (The Devaswom maintains a unique elephant sanctuary – Punathoor Kotta, the only one of its kind in the World. Later visit Mammiyur Temple - The ancient Mammiyur Temple is situated at a walkable distance of 200 metres north west to the famous Guruvayoor Sree Krishna Temple.  Back to hotel for Breakfast. After breakfast, check out from the hotel. If time permits, visit the famous Vadakumnathan temple. Later we proceed to Thrissur/Cochin for Railway station Drop.
